LODIS -- Simple investigative tool generates DNA leads for property crimes

Law enforcement has an edge with LODIS, the Local DNA Index System for Scene Investigations. Police can choose to submit any legally obtained evidence into their own local agency DNA Identity Repository.
DNA:SI Labs and the Palm Bay Police Department have put essential DNA investigation tools squarely in the hands of police for routine property crime, assault and other common crime investigations. The LODIS Scene Investigation program was co-developed between the private and public sectors and has created a system that enables police to learn best practices of evidence collection and quickly receive DNA leads in days instead of months. This investigative tool is changing the approach to fighting high-volume property crimes. DNA evidence gives police an added powerful weapon to identify twice as many suspects, make twice as many arrests and obtain twice as many convictions. Solving more cases greatly reduces crime rates, gets the most common and serious repeat offenders off the streets for longer periods of time and creates safer communities.
The community economic impact of reducing residential and commercial burglaries by 20% per year does more than justify the expense of processing DNA samples obtained from these crime scenes. The DNA:SI system for LODIS Scene Investigations provides a cost-effective solution attacking crime at the local level.
LODIS gives us the ability to solve more crimes that are affecting more people. The results we
are now seeing promise to make a huge impact on the safety of our community.” — Palm Bay Police Chief Bill Berger
LODIS was designed by DNA:SI with veteran law enforcement investigators as an approach to mainstream DNA investigations and solve more crimes quickly.
